The program uses the Transit System's six
wheelchair lift vans, and also contracts with local cab companies.
AOK Travel Network, Inc., doing business as AOK TNI Taxi, was
recently issued a license to operate in Decatur, and has now
requested a contract to provide taxi services for Operation Uplift.
In the past the Transit System has offered the same agreement to all
cab companies operating in the City. At his request the owner of
AOK TNI Taxi was sent a draft copy of the standard agreement, with
their current fares included in the agreement. The owner responded
that he understood and agreed with the terms of the agreement, and
that he understood that the fares he proposed would be in effect for
the term of the agreement. If approved, this agreement would expire
on May 31, 2010, which is the definite end date for the City's
agreement with CU Taxi/Illini Taxi.
POTENTIAL No known objection to awarding the contract to AOK Travel
OBJECTION: Network, Inc.
INPUT FROM Richard Foiles, General Manager
OTHER SOURCES: Decatur Public Transit System
STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator
BUDGET/TIME The Transit System would save money under the proposed
IMPLICATIONS: agreement because AOK TNI Taxi's fares are lower than those
in the City's current agreement with CU Taxi /Illini Taxi.
