Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum <br /> NO. 2007-44 <br /> July 26, 2007 <br /> TO: Honorable Ma or Osborne and City Council <br /> FROM: Steve Garm City Manager �� <br /> Richard G. ley, P.E., Director of En ine ring & In rast�'ucture <br /> Richard N. e ard, Civil Engineer II ��� <br /> SUBJECT: Maintenance Inspection of Division Street Tank and Gar�eld Avenue <br /> Tank <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing <br /> an agreement with Dixon Engineering, Inc., to conduct the Maintenance Inspection of <br /> Division Tank and Garfield Tank for a fee not to exceed $6,245.00. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The City of Decatur owns and operates two elevated water starage tanks known as the <br /> Division Street Tank and the Garfield Avenue Tank. Both tanks are an essential component <br /> of the water distribution system. The purpose of the maintenance inspection is to evaluate <br /> the condition of both tank's structural elements as well as the condition of the interior and <br /> exterior paint. The tanks were previously inspected in 2003. Included in the scope of work, <br /> is the submittal of a report to document the findings and to recommend any maintenance <br /> issues. Any work required to properly maintain the tanks will be included in next years' <br /> budget. <br /> Request for proposal for the maintenance inspection was prepared by staff and forwarded to <br /> two firms, Dixon Engineering (Dixon) and Tank Industry Consultants (TIC). The total fee of <br /> Dixon's proposal amounted to $6,245 and the one from TIC was $7,055. The City of <br /> Decatur has previously used both of these firms and considers both to be well qualified and <br /> capable of providing excellent services. <br /> Staff recommends awarding the contract to Dixon Engineering. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Department of Water Management. <br />
