Newell, P.E., City Engineer (,(/`
wv
SUBJECT: Street Reconstruction Change Order
City Project 07-24
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing a
change order to the Street Reconstruction Project, City Project 07-24 in the amount of$30,000
to make additional pavement repairs near the boathouse on Lake Decatur. This resolution
authorizes the City Manager and the Director of Engineering & Infrastructure to increase the
existing $762,064.75 contract amount by$35,000 to a maximum of$797,064.75.
BACKGROUND:
On May 21s`, 2007 the Cify Council authorized a contract with Dunn Company of Decatur to
perform pavement reconstruction work for the City. Part of the reconstruction work was to
replace one of the access roadways serving the lake front and perform repairs to the main
parking lot east of the boat house in cooperation with the Decatur Park District. As the parking
lot work progressed, additional repairs were noted in the boat ramp area near the boat house
which are under City Maintenance (map is attached). This area was not originally programmed
for pavement repair work this year. With upcoming festivals and public use over the summer,
it was determined by City staff with the Engineering and Infrastructure and Water Management
Departments, that more pavement repairs would be beneficial in the area to forestall further
deterioration over the coming year. The Decatur Park District was contacted regarding the
change order and offered a contribution of$5,000 toward the repairs.
Dunn Company is agreeable to a change order that will increase the low bid quantities on the
current project sufficient to complete the additional pavement replacement work near the boat
house.
The recommended change order cost of$35,000 is approximately 4.6 % of the current
$762,064.75 Street Reconstruction contract.
