• Emergency Inspections: Emergency inspections are generally used to investigate critical ',
sewer problems such as sinkholes, blocked sewer services or mains, maintenance problems I,
and some residential complaints. The ability to get a camera into a line that is experiencing a
failure of some type provides staff with a large amount of information to be used in
determining a proper course of action.
• Manhole Inspections: In addition to main line televising, the City inspects sanitary sewer
manholes. Manholes are often a weak link in the sewer system in that they are direct access
points that leave them open to traffic impacts and heavy storm water inflow. These forces
often have a significant effect on the structural integrity of a manhole and thereby, the system
in general. A significant step in improving the overall reliability of the City's sewer system
and decrease storm water inflow is to gain information on the condition of the City's manholes
and improve them.
During Fiscal Year 2007, Tele Scan completed the video inspection of over 208,000 feet of sewer
and has responded to over 140 sewer inspection emergency calls. It has proven very beneficial to
have a local firm engaged in televising work for the City.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard G Marley, Director of Engineering and
Infrastructure, at 424-2747
Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747.
Rick Marley will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any questions of the
Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
Funding for this project is allocated at $250,000 and budgeted in the Sanitary Sewer Fund.
