a similar modernization of phone systems supporting many Macon County public offices in
commission-owned buildings.
An additional benefit of this system upgrade will be an eventual reduction in the total number of
phone lines required to support Civic Center offices, with significant cost reductions.
Negotiations are on-going with our service provider, AT&T to modify our five-year CENTREX
contract early (expires in March 2008), so that we can take advantage of the new system
capabilities and reduce our line costs. A new contract will be submitted for Council approval
upon completion of negotiations.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None anticipated.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None.
STAFF REFERENCE: David S. Johnston, MIS Manager, 424-2703.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Funding for this proposed expenditure is within the FY
2006-07 approved appropriation, in the MIS Capital Fund. Long term savings in telephone line
costs, while not yet quantifiable, are expected to approach or exceed $550 per month.
Attachments(3)
2
