Smi , ssistant City Manager for Public Services
Keith D. Alex der, Director of Water Management (
Matthew G Newell, P.E., Acting Director of Engineenng and Infrastruct
Richard N. Berard, Civil Engineer II
SUBJECT: Amendment to Agreement with Bainbridge, Gee, Milanski &Associates, Inc. for
Design of Water Booster Pumping Station for South Elevated Water Storage Tank
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that City Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing an
amendment to an agreement with Bainbridge, Gee, Milanski &Associates, Inc., (BGM) to
provide engineering services for the design of a water booster pumping station working in
conjunction with the proposed water storage tank to create a separate pressure zone on the south
side of the City. The proposed amendment is for an additional fee not to exceed $85,000.00.
This will be added to the current $84,000 agreement with BGM to design the south water storage
tank for a total fee not to exceed $169,000.00.
BACKGROUND:
At the City Council meeting of January 8, 2007, a report was presented providing staff's
recommendation for the design of the proposed new south elevated water storage tank. City
Council concurred with the recommendation to proceed with Option 2 which provides for
growth of the water system to meet demands of future residential and commercial development.
Implementation of Option No. 2 will result in the creation of a separate pressure zone for the area
south of Lake Decatur; a feature that was not foreseen in the original design concept for the
proposed new water tank.
The scope of the original agreement with BGM was for siting and design of a new water tower.
The proposal to develop a separate pressure zone for the south side requires the addition of a
water pressure booster pumping station and isolation valves as well as reviewing the affect
pressure zone will have on the south side area. This expansion to BGM's agreement is necessary
to the development of a separate pressure zone.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
