Conference will make recommendations as to which projects will be funded. After
careful scrutiny, it has been determined that th.ere are nF other projects regarding 9-1-1
that could be funded locally. The deadline for applying fcr these funds is January 31,
2007.
Financial Implications-
'I'he ETSB already has a consultant doing work for them in locating the best replacement
switch and software for the Macon County PSAP. They have funded that portion of the
project. The ETSB will provide the recommendations to the city for inclusion in the
grant application. The project will include purchase, installation of the equipment and
any necessary training. There is no match required for this opportunity. However, the
ETSB has agreed to fund the remaining portion of the costs that rise above the amount
granted by the committee. The final costs will not be known until closer to the close of
the application period. The only cost to the city will be "in kind" by preparing, sending
and managing the grant with the Northwest Municipal Conference. This can all be
accomplished through the regular duties of the dministative Operations Division of the
Police Department.
The local governments eligible for funds and the amuunt they are eligible for are:
Argenta- $3,423.36
Uecatur- $350,000.00
lors-th- $9,047.18
Macora- $11,653.40
Maroa- $10,5fi0.17
Mt. "Liot- $1,597.63
Iotal- $386,281.74
The ETSB is contacting these village boards in an attempt to obtain resolutions from their
boards to allow their funding to be incorporated into thzs application. The villages, like
llecatur have no 9-1-1 resources and the funds will be returned to the IMF if they choose
not to participate. Chances for approval of our proposal by the committee improve if we
have a joint application.
Recommendation-
It is recommended that City Council, through an officiI reslution, authorize the Police
Departinent to apply to the Northwest Municipal Cunfrence cominittee for these funds
up to $30,000 in cooperation with the Macon County Emergency Telephone System
Board for the funding of this 9-1-1 switch and software.
Staff Reference:
Chief of Police James A.
