Proiect Description <br /> The cit of Decatur, Illinois is home to 79,285 residents and is located in Macon <br />, Y <br /> County in central Illinois. Decatur is home to Millikin University, a liberal arts college <br /> with an enrollment of 2700 students and Richland Community College. Decatur has two <br /> large full-service hospitals. Decatur is an agricultural center and heavily industrialized <br /> city with several large corporations that conduct business on a global basis. Decatur is a <br /> home rule community and has a manager/council form of local government. Decatur is <br /> the seat of Macon County government. <br /> According to the 2000 census, the County of Macon is home to 110,167 residents. <br /> Macon County has 51,380 housing units. The median income in Macon County is <br /> $37,294. The county covers 581 square miles. <br /> The Decatur Police Department serves a city of over 79,000 residents and atrols i <br /> p , <br /> over 47 square miles. The department employs one hundred sixty-four(164) sworn i <br /> officers and thirty six (36) civilian personnel when fully staffed. The Department prides ! <br /> itself on a community oriented policing philosophy. It recognizes and solves community <br /> based problems through directed patrols; problem oriented policing projects and CPTED <br /> (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design) concepts. It was one of the first M <br /> CAP (Missing and Exploited Children Comprehensive Action Program) sites. <br /> In the fiscal year 2005/2006 the police department handled 66,571 calls for <br /> service and made 4663 traffic stops. The city is served by a fire department that employs <br /> 115 full time fire fighters. The fire department responded to 7,949 calls for service in the <br /> same reporting period. In 2005, the police department's emergency communications <br /> center employed 30 civilian personnel and handled 99,925 calls for service for all of the <br /> police, fire and EMS agencies in Macon County served by the center. <br /> Through an intergovernmental agreement with the Macon County Emergency <br /> Telephone System Board (Macon County ETSB), the Decatur Police Department's <br /> Emergency Communications Center is responsible for operating and staffing the Macon <br /> County Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). It is an Enhanced 9-1-1 Center. It is a <br /> consolidated communications center that serves all the public safety agencies in Macon <br /> County.
