Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum NO. 2006-69 November 27, 2006 TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council FROM: Steve Garma ity Manager Matthew C. well, P.E.,Acting Director of Engineering & Infrastruct SUBJECT: 2006 Manhole Replacement Project, City Project 06-30 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for 2006 Manhole Replacement Project, City Project 06-30, to Entler Excavating Company, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$101,950.00, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. BACKGROUND: The manhole project is designed to remove and replace structurally damaged manholes or small segments of sewers at various locations in the City. Ongoing televised sewer inspection and maintenance work performed by City crews identify damaged locations in the sanitary sewer system that need to be replaced. The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project was advertised November 9, 2006, and bids were opened on November 27, 2006. The results for the letting are as follows: Compared to Engineer's Est. Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) Engineer's Estimate $ 137,250.00 ---- Entler Excavating Co., Inc. $ 101,950.00 (-25.72 %) Barr&Robison Sewer &Excavating Co, Inc. $ 110,025.00 (-19.76 %) Entler Excavating Co., Inc. provided the low bid for the proposed work. Entler Excavating Co., Inc. has successfully completed several projects of this type for the City. Staff recommends that the City Council approve a contract with Entler Excavating Company, Inc. to perform the 2006 Manhole Replacement project. POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution and bid award.
