• COUNCIL MEMORANDUM
#2006-11
DATE: October 11, 2006
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Garma ity Manager
SUBJECT: Contribution to ido Fields Dog Park
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of the attached resolution authorizing a contribution of
$15,000 for a planned dog park to be known as Fido Fields. The contribution comes in
response to a public request on August 7 and the amount was determined based on
follow-up meetings with members of the committee organizing the development.
BACKGROUND:
For several months now a partnership of local volunteer community members has been
• working to develop a dog park to be located in Fairview Park. Plans call for the
development of a four acre off-leash dog park designed to provide a year-round
recreational and community space for dogs and their owners to exercise and socialize.
Fido Fields will feature an electronic double-gated entrance with separate areas for small
and large dogs and the Decatur Park District will provide security and maintenance.
Funds will be used for general construction of the park and a copy of the brochure
detailing park plans is attached.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this
resolution.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Dog Park Committee
STAFF REFERENCE: Steve Garman, City Manager
Ron Neufeld, Director of Finance
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Funding for this project will be taken from
the City's contingency fund.
