E.,Acting Director of Engineering & Infrastructure/,, 1° ,

SUBJECT: Emergency Street Repair at Fairview Avenue and Riverview Avenue
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: !
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution approving the II
expenditure of$14,622.99 for the emergency replacement of a collapsed manhole at the
intersection of Fairview Avenue and Riverview Avenue, and that the Mayor be authorized to sign
said resolution, and the City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
On August 31, 2006, the City was informed of a sinkhole near a manhole in the pavement of
Fairview Avenue at its intersection with Riverview Avenue. A through inspection of the manhole
determined that portions of the lower structure were collapsing and that a large void surrounded
the base leaving the structure unstable. It was determined that the affected lane should be closed
until the manhole could be replaced.
The depth of the manhole and the extent of the damage exceeded the City's ability to perform the
work. The City contracted with Barr&Robison Sewer and Excavating to replace the manhole.
The contractor's work commenced on September 5, and was completed on September 7, 2006.
City crews performed the final pavement restoration work.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell, Acting Director of Engineering and Infrastructure
Matt Newell will be in attendance at the City.Council Meeting to answer questions of the Council
on this item.
