Berard, Civil Engineer II <br /> SUBJECT: DeWitt Well Field Optimization Study <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Council adopt the attached resolution approving Task Order No. 10, with Attachments A and <br /> B, for a Continuing Agreement for Engineering Services with Black & Veatch Corporation to <br /> provide an optimization study for the DeWitt Co. well field at a cost not to exceed $84,500. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The DeWitt well field was purchased and constructed in the early 1990's in response to the <br /> severe drought of 1988. The well field and Lake Vulcan are the City's two major sources of <br /> emergency water that are owned by the City. During last year's mild drought the DeWitt well <br /> field was operated for the longest time ever (63 straight days). The average daily yield was 9 <br /> million gallons (MGD), which was significantly less than the 18 to 24 MGD that the well field <br /> was originally expected to produce. <br /> An optimization study is proposed to determine if the well field can provide more water and be <br /> operated more efficiently. It will examine the mechanical systems, instrumentation, controls, <br /> hydrology and environmental issues to determine what can realistically be done to improve the <br /> well field.
