SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION. .,oy�yNl�ti� , It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution approving the expenditure of$7,648.99 for emergency street repair at Fairview Avenue and Eldorado Street, and that the Mayor be authorized to sign said resolution, and the City Clerk to attest. BACKGROUND: On August 11, 2006, the City was informed of a sinkhole in the pavement of Fairview Avenue just north of Eldorado Street. From the street surface,the void under the pavement appeared quite large and it was determined that the affected lane should be closed until further review could be conducted. The City has maintenance jurisdiction of this portion of Illinois Route 48 and therefore took the lead of the investigation. Working with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the City closed Fairview Avenue in order to investigate the sink hole. The City could find no readily visible damage with a televised inspection of area storm and sanitary sewer pipes. The extent of pavement affected by the sinkhole and the likely depth of excavation required to adequately dig out the unstable material exceeded the City's ability to perform the wark.
