Perry, Purchasing Supervisor��� `� <br /> SUBJECT: Purchase of Gear Box I <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Luflcin <br /> Industries to furnish one (1) S148CH parallel shaft single stage speed reducer gear box. <br /> BACKGROUND: The gear box will be used by the Lake Division. It will be a replacement <br /> gear box, should one be needed for the cutter head dredge and booster pumps 1 and 2. To date, <br /> we have had to replace one gearbox in use on the equipment. The delivery time for the gear box <br /> is 13 to 17 weeks. If one of the present gear boxes were to fail without a replacement, it would <br /> seriously hamper the dredging operation. <br /> This is a sole source purchase. Luflcin is the manufacturer of the gear box. The dredge originally <br /> came equipped with a Lufkin gear box. In order to have all the connections match up, it is <br /> imperative that the City stay with Lufkin. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Water Management requested the gear box. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Keith Alexander, Water Management Director 424-2863. Keith <br /> will be at the meeting to answer any questions the council may have about this purchase. <br /> BUDGET: $18,305 from Water Management Fund <br />
