a
 MAC ON-PIATT
REGIONAL OFFICE
OF EDUCATION
Richard L. Shelby Matthew T. Snyder
REGIONAL SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
June 29, 2006
Dear Mayor Osborne:
Preventing truancy has always been a high priority at our office and we been able to maintain two (2)
full-time truancy officers for Macon and Piatt Counties.
This week our office was notified that we would no longer receive the WIS (Workforce Investment
Solution) grant at our Futures Alternative School in Decatur. This grant provided $ 80,000 in funds.
Futures paid for one-half of a truant officer's salary and benefits (approx. $ 16,000). This position
would be one of the first staff cutbacks that we would make unless we can find additional funding for
her position.
This particular position is housed at Futures and spends her time working with District#61 students
who are truant. Because of this, I am looking for funding from the City of Decatur to help maintain
this full-time position for your schools. I am also making an identical request from the Decatur '
District#61. If the City of Decatur and District#61 can share one-half of the salary and benefits, the
individual costs to the City of Decatur would be approximately$ 8,000.
If such funding is not possible, her position will be reduced and truant District#61 students will not
be served as they have in the past. Hopefully, we can avoid this unfortunate decision.
Please contact me on my cell phone (620-3733) or contact our office to arrange an appointment to
discuss this regrettable set of circumstances.
Sincerely,
i , ,:c;"` p
Richard L.
