Ne ell, P.E., City Engineery�� <br /> SUBJECT: Annual Brick Street Restoration, City Project 06-15 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the <br /> contract for Annual Brick Street Restoration, City Project 06-15, to Otto Baum Company, Inc., as <br /> the lowest,responsible bidder in the amount of$267,160.35, and that the Mayor be authorized to <br /> execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest: I� <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The City has numerous brick streets in varying condition levels. Over the past three years, the City <br /> began allocating funding for the improvement of brick streets with the ultimate goal of restoring <br /> many of them to a more serviceable condition. <br /> Brick street restoration work generally entails the removal of non-brick patches, the removal of <br /> settled brick areas, and the replacement of failed curb and gutter sections. The streets included in ', <br /> this year's project are: <br /> • Haworth Street from Tuttle Street to William Street <br /> • Forest Avenue from Haworth Street to Oakland Avenue <br /> • Union Street from Macon Street to Wood Street <br /> • Prairie Avenue from Home Avenue to Haworth Street <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project was <br /> advertised May 1 l, 2006, and bids were opened on May 26, 2006. The results for the letting are as <br /> follows: <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Est. <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) <br /> Engineer's Estimate $ 259,725.00 ---- <br /> Otto Baum Co., Inc. $ 267,160.35 2.86 % <br /> Christy-Foltz, Inc. . $ 280,515.00 8.00 % <br />
