Perry, Purchasing Supervisor�,Q <br /> SUBJECT: Bids for Diesel Exhaust Extraction Systems <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Midwest Air <br /> Pro to furnish three (3) Nederman Magna Track diesel exhaust extraction systems. These <br /> systems are for the following stations: one for Fire Station #1 located at 1415 N. Water Street, <br /> one for Fire Station #3 located at.1308 W. Eldorado, and one for Fire Station #7 located at 1250 <br /> Airport Road. <br /> BACKGROUND: The extraction systems help eliminate diesel soot and carcinogens in the <br /> cold diesel smoke when starting the fire trucks inside the fire station. A large hose is connected <br /> to the tailpipe of the fire truck and a fan then extracts the smoke out of the building. <br /> The Fire Department is requesting to work with one company - Midwest Air Pro for the three <br /> systems. This will simplify installation and compatibility with the existing units already in the <br /> other fire stations. In additian, Midwest Air Pro has increased the warranty on certain items <br /> above and beyond what the manufacturer carries. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The systems were requested by the Fire Department and <br /> they wrote the bid specifications. They recommend approval of bid. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Sekosky, Fire Chief 424-2811, Mark Hansen, Deputy Fire Chief <br /> 424-2811, will both be at the council meeting to answer any questions the council may have <br /> about this purchase. <br /> BUDGET: Station#1 - $57,565 <br /> Station#3 - $13,425 <br /> Station#7 - $29,000 <br /> $99,990 from an 80/20 share program from the Federal Assistance <br /> to Fire Fighters Grant through the Department of Homeland Security for operations and safety. <br />
