Perry, Purchasing Supervisor�,Q SUBJECT: Bids for Diesel Exhaust Extraction Systems SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Midwest Air Pro to furnish three (3) Nederman Magna Track diesel exhaust extraction systems. These systems are for the following stations: one for Fire Station #1 located at 1415 N. Water Street, one for Fire Station #3 located at.1308 W. Eldorado, and one for Fire Station #7 located at 1250 Airport Road. BACKGROUND: The extraction systems help eliminate diesel soot and carcinogens in the cold diesel smoke when starting the fire trucks inside the fire station. A large hose is connected to the tailpipe of the fire truck and a fan then extracts the smoke out of the building. The Fire Department is requesting to work with one company - Midwest Air Pro for the three systems. This will simplify installation and compatibility with the existing units already in the other fire stations. In additian, Midwest Air Pro has increased the warranty on certain items above and beyond what the manufacturer carries. POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The systems were requested by the Fire Department and they wrote the bid specifications. They recommend approval of bid. STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Sekosky, Fire Chief 424-2811, Mark Hansen, Deputy Fire Chief 424-2811, will both be at the council meeting to answer any questions the council may have about this purchase. BUDGET: Station#1 - $57,565 Station#3 - $13,425 Station#7 - $29,000 $99,990 from an 80/20 share program from the Federal Assistance to Fire Fighters Grant through the Department of Homeland Security for operations and safety.
