N ell, P.E., City Engineer '
SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing an Expenditure of Motor Fuel Tax Funds for
Traffic Signal Improvements, City Project 95-09
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
An item on the agenda for the April 17, 2006, City Council meeting is a resolution authorizing
the allocation of Motor Fuel Tax funds (MFT) for City Project 95-09. It is recommended by '
staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the allocation of
$152,935.95 in MFT funds for the modernization of traffic signals at the intersections of Jasper
Street and Wood Street, Jasper Street and Prairie Avenue, and Grand Avenue and Edward Street. '
BACKGROUND:
On September 18, 1995, the City Council authorized a$302,159.44 contract with Egizii Electric
to improve the traffic signals at the intersections of Jasper/Wood, Jasper/Prairie, and Edward/ ',,
Grand. The project spanned two fiscal years and was completed in 1996. The first year was '
funded with MFT funds ($152,935.95) and the second year was funded from the General Fund
($149,223.49). The Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT)requires a resolution I
specifically authorizing the expenditure of funds from the City's MFT fund. A recent audit by '
IDOT determined that the required expenditure authorization resolution was not completed for
the portion of the project using MFT funds.
The attached resolution and Illinois Department of Transportation supplemental resolution are
procedural and will not affect the City's fund balances.
If the requested supplemental resolution is not approved, the City will need to reimburse its
Motor Fuel Tax Fund from other unobligated funds to compensate for this expenditure from the
MFT fund.
