Perry, Purchasing SupervisorC�� <br /> SUBJECT: Bids for Police Pursuit Vehicles <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Landmark <br /> Ford to furnish eight(8) 2006 Ford Crown Victoria police pursuit vehicles. <br /> BACKGROUND: These vehicles will replace 2003 and 2004 Chevrolet Impalas currently in <br /> use. <br /> The bid of Miles Chevrolet is shown on a separate bid summary only because requested. This is <br /> a deviation from the normal practice, since Miles Chevrolet's bid did not meet the City of <br /> Decatur bid specifications. <br /> It is important to note that City Council can waive any variance. More specifically,the Notice to <br /> Bidders on all of the City specifications, states the following: The Council of the City of <br /> Decatur, Illinois reserves the right to accept, renegotiate or reject any or all proposals and to <br /> waive any variance from the requirements of the instruction for bidders. The Council further <br /> reserves the right to award the contract to the bidder which, in the opinion of Council, will best <br /> serve the public interest, and the criteria listed herein shall be subordinate to the discretion of <br /> Council with regard thereto. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: Miles Chevrolet, local dealer, has expressed opposition to this <br /> bid. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The police department requested the vehicles. Fleet <br /> maintenance wrote the bid specifications. Both recommend approval of bid. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: James Anderson, Police Chief 424-2745, Steve Swanson, <br /> Engineering and Infrastructure Director 424-2747. Both will be at the council meeting to answer <br /> any questions the council may have about this purchase. <br />� BUDGET: $156,420 from the Equipment Replacement Fund. <br />
