MANAGEMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Management Information Services Division
MEMORANDUM 2006-02
February 27, 2006
MEMO TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager
Gerard J. Bauer, Assistant City Manager for Adm'nistration
David S. Johnston, Manager, MIS Division'
SUBJECT: Annual Renewal, IBM DB2 Passport Advantage Maintenance Agreement
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council approve the attached resolution,
authorizing the City Manager to execute a purchase agreement with
MNJ Technologies Direct, renewing our existing IBM DB2 Passport
Advantage Maintenance Agreement.
BACKGROUND: Other than purely financial/accounting software, the great majority of
the city main-line-of-business software systems is developed and
maintained in-house. These systems manage such essential city
functions as Code Enforcement, Building Permits and Inspections,
Citizen Request for Service Response, Crime Analysis, Pet
Licensing, Parking Fine Collection, Lake Management and some 12
other functional areas. All rely on the IBM DB/2 relational database
management system to store, index, protect, and retrieve data, as
do/will all current and future GIS applications. The attached
quotation is an annual expense for upgrade insurance and "bug"
fixing of that system. It assures our right to update to the most
currently available version of the software and provides our software
developers access to IBM support resources and personnel for
problem resolution for the duration of the agreement. Quotations
were solicited from MNJ, an IBM business partner who was our
original provider of the software and currently provides our service
support, and directly from IBM. The MNJ quote is the lower, by
$53.00.
POTENTIAL OBJECTORS: None anticipated.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None.
STAFF REFERENCE: Gerard J. Bauer, Management Services Director(424-2805);
David S. Johnston, MIS Manager(424-2703)
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: The $5,532.00 will be paid from the MIS Fund, reimbursed on a pro
rata basis from other funds, and is within existing appropriation
authorizations.
2 Attachments
