The City currently owns and maintains a 12 inch water main that extends
down a portion of Turpin Road (County Highway 31) to serve the Pittsburg Plate Glass Co. and
the Village of Mt. Zion.
In 2005, the Macon County Highway Department informed the City of their project to improve
Turpin Road. Some of the improvements involved lowering the roadway surface which made
portions of the City's water main too shallow to function reliably. In order to maintain an
acceptable depth to the water main, City Engineering designed relocation plans for the affected
portions of the main. It is important that the relocation work be completed within the next 45
days, prior to commencement of the County's road improvements this spring.
The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project
was advertised February 16, 2006, and bids were opened on February 27, 2006. The results for
the letting are as follows:
Compared to
Engineer's Est.
Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under)
Engineer's Estimate $117,980.00 ----
Bodine Services of
of Decatur, Inc. $105,499.00 (-10.58%)
Burdick Plb &Htg, Inc. $116,450.00 (- 1.30%)
Entler Excavating Co., Inc. $121,100.00 2.64 %
