 r.
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum ,
NO. 2006-08 '
Janu 20 2006 I
'Y
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Garma ty Manager
Stephen Swa s , P.E., Director of Engineering& Infrastructure
Matthew C. Newell, P.E., City Engineer
SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing the Allocation of Motor Fuel Tax Funds for
Street Improvements
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the
allocation of $2,100,000.00 in Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds for the proposed 2006 Street
Restoration project, City Project 06-08, and that the Mayor be authorized to sign said resolution,
and the City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
The MFT funds allocated to local agencies are administered by the Illinois Department of
Transportation (IDOT). The local agency is required to adopt a resolution specifying the
allocation of MFT funds to their intended project. IDOT must have an expenditure authorization
prior to their approval of project specifications.
This resolution authorizes the allocation of$2,100,000.00 in MFT funds for the City's proposed
2006 Street Restoration project, City Project 06-08. The Street Restoration project is an annual
program that generally consists of milling off a portion of the existing asphalt street surface and
placing a new asphalt concrete surface course in order to restore the integrity of the street surface.
A proposed street restoration list is attached hereto.
City Engineering anticipates advertising for bids in mid April and should bring the project to the
City Council for a project award in May.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution.
