Y
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum
NO. 2006 - 09
January 27, 2006
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Gar ., City Manager
Stephen Sw nson, P. E., Director of Engineering & Infrastructure
Matthew C. Newell, P. E., City Engineer
SUBJECT: Annual Brick Street Restoration Project Cost Increase
City Project OS-15
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution approving an
increase to the contract amount with Otto Baum Co., Inc., for Annual Brick Street Restoration,
City Project OS-15. The resolution authorizes the Mayor to increase the existing $204,240.35
contract amount by$10,178.48 for a maximum of$214,418.83 for the work that was necessary
to complete the project, and the City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
On August 1, 2005, the City Council authorized a$204,240.35 contract with Otto Baum Co. Inc.,
to restore various brick streets in the near west section of the City. The work on this project was
substantially completed in November, 2005. The fragile nature of the bricks and nearby curb
and gutter sections required additional quantities to be used in order to complete the work
thereby causing an increased project cost of just over $10,000 to be incurred. The additional
quantities required to complete the project were not anticipated, were consistent with the project,
and in the best interests of the City.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
