E., Director of Engineering & InfrastructureCs /
Matthew C. ewell, P. E., City Engineer, I
SUBJECT: South 51 Water Main Rehabilitation Project Cost Increase ,
City Project OS-14 ,
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution approving an
, increase to the contract amount with Entler Excavating Co., Inc., for South 51 Water Main
Rehabilitation, City Project OS-14. The resolution authorizes the Mayor to increase the existing
$40,175.00 contract amount by$10,000.00 for a maximum of$50,175.00 for the work that is
necessary to complete the project, and the City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
On November 7, 2005, the City Council authorized a $40,175.00 contract with Entler Excavating
Co., Inc., to remove and replace a failed section of water main and a non-functioning valve in the
water main feeding the South Shores area. The water main is located in the median in U.S.
Route 51 just north of Southside Drive. The project began in December 2005, and is currently
on hold until spring for final landscape restoration to be completed. Added project costs were
incurred as a result of a difficulty in precisely locating the water main due to its significant depth
and the necessity of replacing more damaged water main than originally expected. Although the
project is not completed, the final cost is expected to be less than $10,000 over the original
amount approved by Council. The additional excavation work and increased pipe replacement
quantities were not anticipated, were consistent with the project, and in the best interest of the
City in order to complete the project.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution.
