Newell, P.E., City Engineer� <br />' SUBJECT: Handicapped Parking Fines <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached Ordinance which alters <br /> Sections 28 (D) and 77 (G) of Chapter 34 of the City Code to increase the fine for violating a <br /> handicapped parking space from $200 to $250 in accordance with the Illinois Vehicle Code. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> House Bill 1316 recently altered Section 5/11-1301.3 of the Illinois Vehicle Code to raise the <br /> minimum fine for violating a handicapped parking space from $100 to $250 effective January 1, <br /> 2006. Accordingly, staff is recommending to the City Council that the appropriate sections of <br /> Chapter 34 of the City Code be amended to reflect the increased fine. <br /> The proposed changes to Chapter 34 are provided in the attachments. The changes will not go <br /> into effect until January 1, 2006 to coincide with the changes enacted by the State of Illinois. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: State of Illinois <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747 <br /> The City Engineer, Matt Newell, will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any <br /> questions of the Council on this item. <br />
