, , • .. a
1 n
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Economic &Urban Development Department Memorandum
#OS-153
DATE: August 4, 2005
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Garm , y Manager
' Dane Bragg ' tant City Manager
Randy Johner, Construction Inspections Manager
SUBJECT: Chapter 69; City Electrical Code
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: The Construction Inspections Division would like to
recommend adoption of the 2005 National Electrical Code and revisions to Chapter 69, City
Electrical Code (attached).
BACKGROUND: The 2005 N.E.C. has been on file for review since May but there were some
alterations regarding Section 680.26"Equipotential Bonding"that needed to be made. We first
met with the City's Electrical Commission to determine how to approach these alterations which
had to do with installation of in-ground swimming pools. Basically, we deleted this section of the
code as it was discovered that the N.E.C. Code officials would themselves be deleting or
modifying this section later this year. It is still possible, as judged by both our division and the
City Electrical Commission to make a safe installation without use of this deleted section.
Other modifications of Chapter 69 are also shown in the attachment, but the aforementioned
section was the most prevalent.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None we are aware of.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: City Electrical Commission.
STAFF REFERENCE: Randy Johner, Construction Inspections Manager @ 424-2787 or
rcj ohner(adecaturnet.org.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: None.
RJ/lt
