Dane Bragg, sistant City Manage
Randy Johne Construction Inspections Manager

SUBJEC Chapter 67.2; Residential Building Code
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: The Construction Inspections Division would
like to recommend the following addition to Appendix G of the 2000 International
Residential Building Code which pertains to Swimming Pools and Hot Tubs. The
addition reads as follows: "A wall of a swimming pool shall not be located less than 6
feet from any rear or side property line".
BACKGROUND: This required distance from property lines has always been enforced
and was included as part of the 1993 and 1999 BOCA Building Codes which were used
as our model codes until December 2003. At that time,we adopted the 2000
International Residential Code which did not have the setback requirement. We feel that
this requirement is necessary to maintain a safer pool installation.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: Since these rules have always been enforced and is
included in our pool information brochure, there should be no objections.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The Planning Division of Economic &Urban
Development Department.
STAFF REFERENCE: Randy Johner, Construction Inspections Manager @ 424-2787
or rciohner(cr,decaturnet.org.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: None.
RJ/It
