Excerpts of Plan Commission Meeting March 3, 2005
Cal. No. OS-10 Petition of BRUSH COLLEGE LLC. AND ARCHER
DANIELS MIDLAND COMPANY to rezone the premises
at 4227 East Mound Road from R-1, Single Family
Residence District to M-1 Intense Commercial-Light
Industrial District and to request a Conditional Use Permit
for an Amusement Park to operate the Farm Progress
Show.
Mrs. Joselyn Stewart was sworn in by Ms. Jesse.
Mrs. Stewart gave the recommendation of staff:
The subject property is undeveloped and is currently being used for agriculture
production. The purpose of the rezoning and Conditional Use Permit is to allow for
future improvements to be made for the Farm Progress Show. The event will be held in
years 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2013 on approximately 287 acres.
The petitioner proposes to rezone the property from R-1, Single Family Residence
District to M-1, Intense Commercial-Light Industrial and is also requesting a Conditional
Use Permit that would allow the operation of the Farm Progress Show.
The Farm Progress Show will connect to the City's water system at Brush College Road.
There will also be a minimum of four (4) fire hydrants installed on the site in the general
location of each corner.
Sanitary sewer will be provided by the Sanitary District. Four (4) bathroom facilities will
also be constructed this year.
Access to the site will be from Brush College Road, Mound Road and Rea's Bridge
Road. Parking will be temporary and will not be on a paved surface.
Mound Road will be extended east and other private streets will be developed and
maintained by Macon County Highway Department.
Most of the properties surrounding the site are agriculture in use and located in the
County. '
Upon review of land use and zoning patterns of the area, staff is of the opinion that the ;
Farm Progress Show will be consistent with the other uses including Richland I
Community College.
The use will be located at a convenient site for the public to access, is compatible with
the area and provides a service which can be utilized by area residents.
