. . .
LEGAL DEPARTMENT MEMORANDUM
NO. 2005-06
March 3, 2005
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager
Wendy Morthland, Corporation Counsel
SUBJECT: Boards and Commissions - Residency
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that Council approve an
Ordinance amending various chapters of the City Code requiring that members of City
Boards and Commissions be residents of the City of Decatur. .
BACKGROUND: Questions recently arose regarding a residency requirement for
members appointed by the Mayor and Council to City of Decatur Boards and
Commissions. Upon reviewing the many City Code chapters establishing various
boards and commissions, it was discovered that not all had a requirement that persons
appointed be residents of the City of Decatur. The attached amendments would make
that requirement uniform throughout the City Code.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known or expected objections.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
STAFF REFERENCE: Wendy Morthland, Corporation Counsel
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: None
