EXCERPTS OF THE <br /> MINUTES OF THE MEETING <br /> OF THE <br /> TRAFFIC AND PARKING COMMISSION <br /> Tuesday, October 12, 2004, 4:00 P.M. <br /> Item # 1 Request for handicapped parking space on Edward Street for 411 <br /> West Main Street <br /> Matt Newell provided the Commission with a drawing showing the location of <br /> Architectural Restorations, Inc. and the parking space staff has recommended for the on <br /> street handicapped parking. Claudia Williams from Architectural Restorations was <br /> present to answer any questions the Commission may have. Architectural Restorations <br /> has a parking lot behind their building, however, there is no access to the handicapped <br /> accessible entrance from the parking lot. Newell stated the proposed handicapped <br /> parking space on the street is the best opportunity the business has for adequate <br /> handicapped parking. Phil Bauer commented his only concern with the handicapped <br /> space on the street is the narrowness of Edward Street which could result in a <br /> dangerous situation. Newell stated the options are limited with the parking lot behind the <br /> business being handicapped inaccessible. Ms. Williams said Architectural Restorations <br /> is aware this is not a reserved handicapped spot for their business and that anyone with <br /> a valid handicapped placard or license plate would be allowed to park in the space. <br /> Staff recommends approval of the request for a handicapped parking space on Edward <br /> Street <br /> It was moved and seconded (Veteto / Harris) to follow staff recommendation. Motion <br /> carried unanimously. <br />
