ECONONIIC AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT MEMORANDUM
' No. 04-84
June 15, 2004
TO: Mayor Paul Osborne and City Council Members
,
FROM: Steve G 'ty Manager
Dane C. B irector of Economic and Urban Development
SUBJECT: Downtown esidential Parking Permit Reinstatement
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the attached
amendment to Chapter 34, Traffic, regarding residential pazking permits. The attached
amendment reinstates the Class "B" residential permit which allows unlimited on-street
and surface pazking during all hours for a$60.00 monthly fee. Staff inadvertently deleted
this permit during prior ordinance amendments.
BACKGROUND: When the trial zone pazking plan was adopted in 2002, an unlimited
$60.00 pazking permit was created for residents desiring a "no-hassle" parking option
whereby they could utilize on-street parking in the Customer Parking Zone. Demand for
the permit has been relatively low, however, there aze a few downtown residents who do
utilize the permit and wish to continue subscribing to this permit option. Staff desires to
continue providing this option for residents and had no intention of deleting this
provision from the City Code when amending the downtown parking system.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: N/A.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The City Engineer has also reviewed the
reinstatement and has no objections to the proposed amendment.
STAFF REFERENCE: Any additional questions may be forwarded to Dane Bragg at
424-2727 or dbrag(c,decaturnet.or.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: N/A.
