Nood'en, P.E.,Assistant City Engineer ' SUBJECT: South 51 Water Main Rehabilitation, City Project 05-14 , SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the , contract for the South 51 Water Main Rehabilitation, City Project OS-14, to Entler Excavating � Company, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of $40,175.00, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. BACKGROUND: Over the past two years, the major water main serving the South Shores area has experienced at least two significant breaks. One of the more recent breaks earlier this past summer forced the main to be shut off until repairs are completed. As part of the repair investigation, the City inserted a camera into the water main to inspect the line and determine the exact extent of damage and also document all of the main's valves and fittings. This project will remove and replace a broken section of pipe and also remove and replace a valve in the 12 inch water main feeding into South Shores. The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project was advertised October 14, 2005, and bids were opened on October 28, 2005. The results for the letting are as follows: Compared to Engineer's Est. Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) Engineer's Estimate $ 47,075.00 ---- ' Entler Excavating Co., Inc. $ 40,175.00 (-14.66 %) � Burdick Plb. & Htg. Co., Inc. $ 43,075.00 (- 7.96 %) Entler Excavating Co., Inc. provided the low bid for the proposed work. Staff recommends that the City Council approve a contract with Entler Excavating Co., Inc. to perform the South 51 Water Main Rehabilitation Project.
