Nooden, P.E.,Assistant City Engineer ��j SUBJECT: Amendment to Fire Station Driveway Rehabilitation City Project OS-09 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing a change order to the Fire Station Driveway Rehabilitation, City Project OS-09, in the amount of $14,888.00 for the reconstruction of the employee parking area and sidewalks for Fire Station#3 which is located on the Northwest corner of Eldorado and Fairview. BACKGROUND: On May 31, 2005 the City Council authorized a $91,832.00 contract with Christy-Foltz, Inc., to rehabilitate the driveways for Fire Stations #3, #5, #6, and number#7 in order to correct years of deterioration, engineering deficiencies and safety issues. These repairs will rectify an existing drainage problem, rehabilitate deteriorated pavement, and provide a safe means of walking around the structure. The unit prices are per the original contract amounts and are within the normally expected costs for this type of work. Allowing Christy-Foltz, Inc., to add this work to their current contract will allow the proposed extension to occur yet this year and will capitalize on the fact that their forces are currently mobilized in the area. This authorization will also significantly reduce the staff time necessary to complete a full set of plans and specifications and bid out the project. Funding is currently available in the Capital budget for this work.
