Newell, P.E., City Enginee <br /> SUBJECT: 2005 Water Main Extension Project, City Project OS-Ol <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the <br /> contract for 2005 Water Main Extension Project, City Project OS-01, to Bodine Services of <br /> Decatur, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$316,537.00, and that the Mayor <br /> be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The proposed 2005 Water Main Extension Project extends water mains on Taylor Road, from <br /> Heritage to County Highway 30 on the south side of town, and on Neeley Avenue from <br /> Stevenson Elementary School to the north City limits on the north side of town. The extensions <br /> are largely as a result of numerous requests for water service in those areas and the high numbers <br /> of potential customers in the various extension areas. <br /> All customer connections outside of the City limits are double the normal water rate and require <br /> the customer to annex to the City if their property becomes contiguous to the corporate boundary <br /> in the future. <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staf£ The project <br /> was advertised September 2, 2005, and bids were opened on September 20, 2005. The results for <br /> the letting are as follows: <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Est. <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) <br /> Engineer's Estimate $380,005.00 ---- <br /> Bodine Services, Inc. $316,537.00 (-16.70 %) <br /> Barr&Robison Sewer <br /> Excavating, Inc. $329,637.50 (-13.25 %) <br /> Burdick Plumbing & <br /> Heating Company, Inc. $334,325.00 (-12.02 %) <br />
