Mass Transit Memorandum No. 082605-1 August 26,2005 TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council Members FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager '��m Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator��t' SUBJECT: Grant Agreement for IDOT Mass Transit Operating Assistance SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council adopt a Resolution to execute an RECONIlVIENDATION: agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation for mass transit operating assistance in the maximum amount of$2,590,230 for State FY-2006. BACKGROUND: Each year the Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT) provides grant assistance to offset part of the cost of operating the Decatur Public Transit System. IDOT will reimburse the City for up to 55%of the actual eligible transit operating expenses for the state fiscal year. On May 9, 2005, an application was submitted to IDOT requesting a grant of$2,590,230 for FY-2006. The attached agreement would award Decatur an operating assistance grant not to exceed 55%of the actual eligible operating expenses of the Transit System. POTENTIAL No known objection to this grant agreement. OBJECTION: INPUT FROM Division of Public Transportation, OTHER SOURCES: Illinois Department of Transportation STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy,Mass Transit Administrator BUDGET/TIME This grant will reimburse Decatur for 55% of its actual eligible IMPLICATIONS: transit operating expenses. The remaining 45%will be paid through an operating grant from the Federal Transit Administration, fares and other revenues generated by the Transit System, and local funds. The term of this grant agreement is State Fiscal Year 2006.
