T
€ V
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
#2005- 29
DATE: August 23, 2005
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Steve Garm it Mana er
Leslie A. , Sr., Fire Chief'(
Ron Neufeld Finance Director .L -
Stephen Swanson, P.E., Director'of Engineering & Infrastructure
SUBJECT: Replacement of 1992 Pierce Lance 75' Aerial Fire Truck
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution, which
authorizes the purchase of a Pierce Dash 75 HDL Fire Truck from Pierce Manufacturing
through the Northwest Municipal Conference (NWMC) for $583,400.00, and that the
Mayor be authorized to execute the contract and the City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
The Finance Director has met with Fire Department and Engineering & Infrastructure
Department and everyone has agreed that one of the 1992 Pierce 75' aerial fire trucks
needs to be replaced. The equipment replacement schedule presently calls for this truck
to be replaced in FY12, but due to ongoing maintenance problems and downtime, it is
recommended that a new truck be ordered now. There are substantial savings by going
through the NWMC, and the decision to purchase must be made immediately in order to
realize those savings.
Because the truck is being replaced earlier than expected, there are not adequate funds in
the Equipment Replacement Fund to pay for it. It is therefare the recommendation to the
City Council that we go ahead and place the order and upon delivery of the truck,
authorize the Finance Director to seek bids from all Decatur banks to secure a loan and
repay it in five years. The Fire Department transfer into the Equipment Replacement
Fund will be increased and the repayment of the loan will be made out of the Equipment
Replacement Fund.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this
resolution.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
