r ,,., <br /> COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM <br /> Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum <br /> NO. 2005-47 <br /> July 20, 2005 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council <br /> FROM: Steve Garm ity Manager � <br /> Stephen Sw n, P.E.,Director of Engineering & Infrastructure <br /> Mathew C. ewell, P.E., City Engineer,��,� <br /> �v v�.. <br /> SUBJECT: Annual Brick Street Restoration, City Project OS-15 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the <br /> contract for Annual Brick Street Restoration, City Project OS-15, to Otto Baum Company, Inc., as <br /> the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$204,240.35, and that the Mayor be authorized to <br /> execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The City has numerous brick streets in v.arying condition levels. Over the past two years, the City <br /> began allocating funding for the improvement of brick streets with the ultimate goal of restoring <br /> many of them to a more serviceable condition. <br /> Brick street restoration work generally entails the removal of non-brick patches, the removal of <br /> settled brick areas, and the replacement of failed curb and gutter sections. The streets included in <br /> this year's project are: <br /> • Tuttle Street from Hayworth Street to Lincoln Place <br /> • Lincoln Place/Boyd Road from Tuttle Street to Decatur Street � <br /> • Crea Street from Wood Street to the south end <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project was <br /> advertised July 5, 2005, and bids were opened on July 22, 2005. The results for the letting are as <br /> follows: <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Est. <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) <br /> Engineer's Estimate $ 185,900.00 ---- <br /> Otto Baum Co., Inc. $ 204,240.35 9.87 % <br /> Beniach Construction Co., Inc. $ 235,155.00 26.50 % <br />
