Travis Stanley, Civil Engineer I � SUBJECT: Country Manor Street Reconstruction, City Project O1-07 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for Country Manor Street Reconstruction, City Project 01-07, to Beniach Construction Co., Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of $389,974.76 to reconstruct the street with a concrete pavement, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. A second resolution is included herewith that authorizes a change order in the amount of$45,000.00 to the contract to remove and replace 100% of the curb and gutter on the reconstructed streets. Staff recommends the approval of this change order. BACKGROUND: This project is designed to improve the concrete streets in the Country Manor Estates subdivision on the City's east side as shown on the enclosed drawing. This work will include the removal and replacement of the existing concrete pavement with a new concrete pavement over a stabilized sub- grade. The project includes the removal and replacement of various sections of deteriorated curb and gutter sections. Staff inet with many residents of the neighborhood during a public open house on June 7, 2005. All of the residents were very receptive to street construction proposed for the neighborhood and its traffic disruption. Many residents at the open house preferred to have the street replaced with concrete rather than with asphalt. The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project was advertised June 17, 2005, and bids were opened on July 8, 2005. The results for the letting are as follows: Compared to Compared to Asphalt Engineer's Est. Concrete Engineer's Est.
