_ '
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING & INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#OS - 20
June 23, 2005
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager
Ron Neufeld, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor..
SUBJECT: Purchase of Defibrillator
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Medtronic
Emergency Response Systems to furnish two (2) LifePak LP 12 defibrillator/monitors.
BACKGROUND: These defibrillators will be used by the Fire Department. They replace 8+
year old units currently in use.
This is a sole source purchase. Medtronics is the manufacturer of LifePak defibrillators. The
Fire Department has standardized with this manufacturer so all their defibrillators use the same
paper, batteries, and analyzers. In addition, the LifePak units are compatible with the units at
each of the hospitals and the ambulance service. This allows for the three leads and connectors
on the units to be interchangeable once a person is transferred from the care of the Fire
Department to the ambulance/hospital.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Fire Department requested the units.
STAFF REFERENCE: Les Albert, Fire Chief, 24-2762. Mark Hansen, Deputy Fire Chief,
424-2762. Les Albert will be at the City Council meeting to answer any questions council may
have about this purchase.
BUDGET: $8245 each or $16,490 total from the General Fund.
