r I
 _ < II
The proposed sidewalk contract for this fiscal year incorporates two sidewalk initiatives
identified for the General Fund: Sidewalks Improvements ($80,000) and Sidewalk Ramp
Program ($40,000). In the interest of obtaining the best possible bids, staff has combined
these proj ects under one contract.
As in past years, the sidewalk contract contains the flexibility to add sidewalk '
reconstruction quantities to the contract as deteriorated segments are identified as causing a I
safety hazard or a general nuisance to the public. These segments are generally identified i
by citizen complaints or staff investigation. The sidewalk contract allows the City to retain I
the services of the low bid contractor to perform additional sidewalk work as the need
arises over the course of the fiscal year.
Staff desires the ability to be more responsive to the citizens of the City by making a strong
effort to improve the timeliness of necessary sidewalk replacement / repair. Added
sidewalk replacement volume will improve the condition of the City's sidewalks.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this
resolution and bid award.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
E• Matt Newell Cit En ineer 424-2747
STAFF REFERENC . , y g ,
Travis Stanley, Civil Engineer I, 424-2747
The City Engineer, Matt Newell, will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to
answer any questions of the Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
Funding for this project is currently budgeted in the City's Capital Improvements Fund.
The recommended low bid amount is $83,605.20. The resolution also authorizes an
increase to the project amount up to $110,000.00.
The project is scheduled to begin by July 2005 and should be substantially completed
within 4 months.
Attach: 3
cc: John Smith, Assistant City Manager for Public Services
Phil Wilhelm, Municipal Services Manager
Doug Nooden, Assistant City Engineer
Bobby Davidson, Engineering Technician Supervisor
WAS CON Co.
Karnic Construction
Entler Excavating Company, Inc.
