. .. .
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
#2005 - 16
June 1, 2005
MEMO TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Steve Garm , ity Manager
Ron E. Ne , Financial Management Director
SUBJECT: Taxi License Application for Illini Taxi C-U Taxi
On May 26, 2005, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a public hearing was held as required by
Chapter 60 of the City Code regarding the application received from Duane Edwards, Illini Taxi
C-U Taxi, for a new taxicab license. Notice had been given and that notice and various other
documents and testimony were received.
Ron Neufeld, the Director of Financial Management, as my designee, was the hearing
officer. After examining the documents and testimony, it was found that the public would
benefit from another taxicab service and that the vehicles proposed comply with the terms of the
Code. Considered in his decision was the financial responsibility of the applicant, number of
vehicles and other factors required by Code.
During the hearing there was testimony that customers were waiting an hour or longer
during the busy times and that another taxicab service would improve response time to the
customer. There was also testimony that there was not enough business to support another
service and that granting another license would hurt the existing businesses.
After considering the documentation and evidence presented, it is recommended that
Council grant the taxicab license to Illini Taxi C-U Taxi.
