, .
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum
NO. 2005-13
March 3, 2005
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager (
Stephen Swanson, P.E., Director of Engineering & Infrastructure II
Matthew C. Newell, P.E., City Engineer,,J` i
1N"-
SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing the Allocation of Motor Fuel Tax Funds for General ,
Maintenance 2005
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: I
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the
allocation of$370,000.00 in Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds for general traffic signal maintenance
work to be completed in 2005 and that the Mayor by authorized to sign said resolution, and the ',
City Clerk to attest. '
BACKGROUND:
The Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds allocated to local agencies are administered by the Illinois
Department of Transportation (IDOT). The City is required to adopt a resolution specifying the
allocation of such funds to their intended project.
In previous years, the City has generally budgeted approximately $370,000.00 per year in MFT
funds to reimburse the General Fund for expenses related to the operation and maintenance of the
City's traffic signals. This funding covers the costs of two City Electricians, their vehicles,
materials and electricity costs. IDOT reimburses the City's MFT fund for a portion of the traffic
signal maintenance work completed on traffic signals located on State highways in the City.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to these resolutions.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Illinois Department of Transportation
