Newell, P.E., City Engineer„""
Richard N. Berard, Civil Engineer II ,
SUBJECT: Land Purchase for South Elevated Water Storage Tank,
City Project 97-35
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the purchase
of a 3 acre parcel of land, a site for the construction of the South Elevated Water Storage Tank,
from Greanias Farms for the price of$60,000.
BACKGROUND:
In April 2001, the City entered into an Agreement with Bainbridge, Gee, Milanski and
Associates to perform engineering work for a proposed water tank on the south side of the City
to address low water pressure in the water distribution system.
A memorandum to Council dated January 18, 2005, stated that after a long and difficult search
for a suitable site for the water tank, a 3 acre site was located on the west side of Franklin Street
Road a quarter mile north of Mount Gilead Road.
An "Option" and right to purchase within six months was granted by the owners, Greanias
Farms, on October 30, 2004. City Staff has investigated and confirmed the suitability of the
site far the construction of an elevated water storage tank and recommends Council to approve
the purchase of the site. According to the City's real estate consultant, the cost of$20,000 per
acre is fair market price for such a parcel of land.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution.
