E.,Director of Engineering& InfrastructureJ-
Matthew C. Newell, P. E., City Engineer!
Doug R. Nooden, P.E., Assistant City Engineer t¢nt
SUBJECT: Amendment to Water Main Extension Heritage Road
City Project 03-25
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing a change
order to the Water Main Extension Heritage Road, City Project 03-25, in the amount of
$107,644.00 for the construction of a water main to service Ferris Drive and Green View Drive.
BACKGROUND:
On April 5, 2004, the City Council authorized a $253,571.75 contract with Bodine Services to
complete water main extension work along Heritage Road south of Decatur. This work is
currently underway. Due to the overwhelming interest by the residents in the subdivision located
on Ferris Drive and Greenview Drive (presently not in City limits) to obtain City water, the
Engineering Division proposes to add water main installation on Ferris Drive and Greenview
Drive to City Project 03-25, currently being prosecuted by Bodine Services.
Bodine Services has supplied unit prices to install 2,920 lineal feet of 8 inch water main and
appurtenances for the proposed Ferris Drive and Greenview Drive water line extension. These '
unit prices have been reviewed by City Engineering and found to be within the normally
expected cost for water main work of this type. Prices for construction materials have been
rising steadily nationwide due to a large volume of overseas demand.
Allowing Bodine Services to add this work to their current contract will allow the proposed ,
extension to occur yet this year and will capitalize on the fact that their forces are currently ',
mobilized in the area. This authorization will also significantly reduce the staff time necessary to
complete a full set of plans and specifications and bid out the project.
_
