COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum
NO. 2004 -45
June 15, 2004
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman., City Manager
Stephen Swanson,P. E.,Director of Engineering & Infrastructure
Matthew G Newell,P. E., City Engineer
SUBJECT: Agreement with PWC for Professional Surveying Services for 2004
City Storm Drainage Projects
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing an
agreement with Phillip W. Cochran, Consulting Engineer, (PWC) to provide professional I
surveying services for the City's 2004 miscellaneous storm drainage projects. The proposed ,,
agreement is for a fee not to exceed $8,400.00. ;
BACKGROUND: I
City Engineering is beginning design work to address various storm drainage issues in the Valley ,
Drive area, north of Pershing Road, and on 34th Street South of Fitzgerald Road. Drainage in '
these areas is difficult to manage and is causing some road damage and property damage.
City staff requested a quote for professional surveying services from PWC to facilitate the City's
design efforts. Cochran has provided design services in the past for the City, including
surveying, and has performed this service well. Professional services are not generally bid out
since the work items are not well defined, or not entirely known, and as such the City is
essentially retaining a representative that will seek its best interest on the project. '
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objections to this request.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Phillip W. Cochran, Consulting Engineer
