The City of Decatur will provide minor
home modifications, such as ramping, for persons with disabilities in order
to improve livability and safety in their homes. In addition, due to
physical disabilities some persons in this population segment live on
limited incomes. Rent subsidy is sometimes required to allow persons
with physical disabilities to afford safe, sanitary and decent housing.
Another important element of this need is for people with disabilities to be
integrated within standard housing units. An integrated approach to
accessible housing minimizes stereotypes and helps people with
disabilities live more independently. Soyland Access to Independent
Living will serve as a referral agency to match those with housing needs to
those who can provide it.
Program ' - : ': :Agency/Funding , ;N ;;,Aliocation
, . , . = Source . ,
DHA Section 8 Rent Subsid 24 units DHA $1,300,000
Home Modification Ram Pro am (10 units) CDBG $25,000
Total $1,325,000
Subarea 3.3 Person With AIDS
Persons With Aids Priority 1: To provide rent and utility assistance, case management,
and other supportive services to persons with AIDS.
Anticipated Results: Provide drug free and alcohol free housing with supportive services
to help meet the needs of non- institutional victims of AIDS.
Rationale: Persons with AIDS need housing options which include access to 24 hour
medical services, companionship, and other supportive services.
