Newell,P.E., City Engineer� SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing the Allocation of Motor Fuel Tax Funds for Street Improvements I SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolutions authorizing the allocation of $2,110,000 and $600,000 in Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds for Street Restoration and Concrete Pavement Joint Repairs respectively, and that the Mayor be authorized to sign said resolutions, and the City Clerk to attest. BACKGROUND: The MFT funds allocated to local agencies are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The local agency is required to adopt a resolution specifying the allocation of MFT funds to their intended project. The resolutions authorize the allocation of$2,710,000 in MFT funds for the City's proposed 2004 street improvement projects. These projects are our annual Street Restoration, City Project 04-08 ($2,110,000) and Concrete Pavement Joint Repairs, City Project 04-18 ($600,000). Street restoration generally consists of milling off a portion of the existing asphalt surface and placing a new asphalt concrete surface course. The concrete pavement joint repair project generally involves the removal and replacement of failed concrete pavement joints and other concrete pavement repairs.
