Newell,P.E., City Engineer� <br /> SUBJECT: Storm Sewer Repair at Intersection of East North & North Calhoun Streets <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the <br /> City Manager and the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure to enter into an agreement with <br /> Barr & Robison Sewer and Excavating, Inc., to repair a storm sewer at the intersection of East <br /> North Street and North Calhoun Street. The resolution authorizes an expenditure of up to <br /> $25,000 for the work. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> During the preliminary work as part of the City's 2003 street restoration project, it was <br /> discovered that a section of the North Calhoun Street 24" storm sewer had significant mineral <br /> deposits similar to concrete. These deposits fill nearly half of the pipe and created a blockage in <br /> the storm line. A portion of the filled in section of pipe was located beneath an SBC manhole. <br /> Any work on the sewer pipe requires the removal and replacement of the SBC structure. <br /> City staff contacted SBC and a joint decision was made to request Barr & Robison to submit a <br /> quote for removing and replacing the SBC manhole and removing and replacing the filled in City <br /> storm sewer. SBC agreed to pay for the removal and replacement of their manhole. <br /> This portion of North Calhoun Street is scheduled to receive and asphalt overlay during the 2004 <br /> construction season. This repair work must precede the proposed street work. <br />
