Portal Components Access to MUMS data is accomplished through what MUMS refers
to as portlets. Initial portlets include Status Portlets,Crystal Repons
Portlets and the Workflow Portlet. The portal also allows access to other web-based systems and
information, including links to your favorite web-sites. Additionally, the MUNIS Management Portal
maintains a system that provides the user with valuable alert notifications.
• Status Portlets provide the real-time status of particular items within MUNIS. These include
account balances, current status of processes like payrolls, utility bill runs and tax bill runs. The
status shows what stage a process is in and allows the user to drill down to detailed information
about the process,including dollar amounts,GL accounts,and more.
• Crystal Report Portlets allow you to make run-time editions of Crystal Reports without havin,to
install the Crystal Reports developer on the Portal user's desktop. It eliminates the need to set up
the reports...you simply run the desired report fmm your desktop with pre-determined prompts for
date ranges,etc.
• The Workflow Portlet o ants the Portal user access to his or her current workflow items within
the Portal framework.
• Another component, the Alerts Engine, allows users to specify criteria to monitor, and to send an
aler[if that condition is reached. For instance, the Finance Officer wants an alert if the amount in a
specific cash account falls below a certain level,or the IT manager wants an alert when disk space
falls to a certain level. The alert may be sent through a pop-up message,e-mail,or text messaae
on a mobile phone or PDA.
5eCurity 8nd Inteqrity Each site establishes their own security policies by organizing all
the MUNIS-provided content into roles that are then assigned to
users. Existing MUNIS security applies to all MUNIS content. Once access is gran[ed,Portal users
customize their desktop, arranging the information to fit their personal needs. Web Services is used to
access the MUNIS da[abase. In many cases, content will use pre-existing MUNIS code to provide the
information, simply wrapping that code to provide it as a Web Service. This guazantees that informa-
tion in the Portal will agree with information accessed via traditional MUNIS programs. MUNIS will
also provide an SDK(Software Development Kit)to allow developers to add their own content to the
Portal application.
