A , Sr.,Fire Chief ��{`��C�. <br /> SUBJECT: Fire Grant ' <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that we accept a grant from the <br /> Emergency Preparedness &Response Directorate (EP&R/FEMA of DHS) for the FY03 <br /> Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Decatur Fire Department submitted a grant <br /> application to the Emergency Preparedness &Response Directorate (EP&R/FEMA of DHS) for <br /> the FY03 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program in the program area of Fire Operations and <br /> Firefighter Safety. The grant has been approved. The approved project costs amounts to <br /> $234,600.00. <br /> The approved grant is to replace 48 sets of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) <br /> and to replace 58 spare air bottles. The Department's SCBA and air bottles are becoming quite <br /> old and the air bottles have a 15 year life-expectancy. This life expectancy will be expiring <br /> within the next couple of years. This grant is helping us replace these bottles in a timely manner <br /> without an extreme added cost to the City. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Les Albert, Fire Chief <br /> BUDGET/TIME The Federal government's share of the $234,600.00 <br /> IMPLICATIONS: grant is 70°Io or$164,220 and the City's share is <br /> 30°Io or$70,380.00. <br />
